| Disney limited edition art has been offered to the public since the first lithograph prints were sold in department stores back in the 1940's In 1974 the Disney art program released their first HAND PAINTED LIMITED EDITION CELS. These exact recreations of classic character scenes were offered since so few original production cels existed. The first releases were hand inked and hand painted cels released in editions of only 275. These cels were presented just as the original production cels - with no backgrounds. They came in fabric covered portfolio books for an elaborate presentation. The original sets were from Snow White, Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, and Pinocchio. The later sets were Fantasia (6 cel set), Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and finally Sleeping Beauty. In 1986, Disney released their first hand painted limited edition cel with the matching printed background. These were the first complete scenes offered to collectors in a fine art cel format. The first ones from this series were two scenes from Song of the South. In later years, Disney offered hand painted scenes in varying edition sizes from 350 to 950. Almost 300 different scene have been released to date. All the editions are long sold out. We are delighted to offer many of these from private collections. |
