| Sleeping Beauty was the most expensive animated film to date when it was released in 1959. Over 5 years in the making, it broke the mold with innovative animation, rich characters and the gorgeous stylized backgrounds of Eyvind Earle. Although it was received with lukewarm reviews by the critics, it now has a huge following with the public and is considered to be one of the best fairy tale Disney films.
